Bic Disposable Pre-Charged Cellphones

Bic is an awesome gadget company. I’ve been using their quality ball-point pens and even a disposable razor or two for years. I’m not quite sure if I can trust them yet when it comes to anything too technological. I mean, they don’t really have a reputation as a tech company. But luckily, with this dip in the mobile market pie, Bic has a little help from their friends.

Concept Hybrid Motorcycle

Permit me a moment of heresy. I certainly can appreciate the visceral sensation derived from the sound and power generated by downshifting a Ducati or Harley. The reality we all need to face is that hybrids are pervasive and the line of concept bikes from ecycle might re-define the hog. Designed by Machineart of Frenchtown, NJ, these bikes will put some green into your machine.

EV-X7 - a cool electric motorcycle

The EV-X7 is a new kind of electric motorcycle which has a top speed of 90mph (maybe even a 100 down a very steep hill) and a range of up to 110 miles off a 6 hour charge.

The improved performance is put down to new type of motor that is both lighter and more efficient and appropriately called the Sumo hybrid (have you ever heard of a lite sumo?). The manufacturers Axle are planning a mini version of the EV-X7 later this year for under £1,000 which sounds promising.

Clarion DrivTrax GPS for bikers

Bikers no longer need to gripe about how they’re being left out by the GPS industry. Clarion has delivered the DrivTrax GPS navigation system especially for bikers, where the use of AA batteries offer up to 11 hours of autonomy. Other than keeping you on track in your journey, the DrivTrax GPS also features an integrated speaker that voices out directions so you can keep your eyes on the road. As with other motorbike-centric devices, it is important that the DrivTrax GPS is waterproof, and it does not disappoint in that aspect. It will retail for approximately 125€ when released.

The Matra MS1: Maybe the first practical hybrid bike

Lately, more and more light electric vehicles pop up. Whether they’re skateboards, wacky skates or whatever, they all share low speeds and ranges, and the need to drag them with you when the juice runs out. Then, there was the Pi Bike, which looked good, had an electric motor, and pedals to back you up. That one had a pretty short range, and above all an enormous price, and thus almost no practicality at all.

This time, a French company called Matra Sports have created what seems to be a really viable hybrid bike. Dubbed a ‘Lightweight Hybrid Motorbike”, it’s basically a high-tech moped. Read on for a more detailed description.

The URWERK 201 series: exclusive, cutting-edge

About a week ago I found out about a new series of watches from the relative new-comer in the Haute-Horlogerie scene, Urwerk. Their watches feature a one-of-a-kind complication, comprised of revolving satellites. What this means is that the minute hands operate through revolving satellites that display the current hour.

The watches are manufactured in extremely limited editions, and the prices reflect this. The 201 series have a special look, related and inspired from race cars. Of course, there are also features usually typical to race cars. Read on for more spicy details, including the pricing details and some high-res pictures.

Let’s start with the materials: they’re, of course, exclusive. For the 201 Series, you get to choose between red gold, white gold, platinum and black platinum.

Then, the complication: There are also other special characteristics: For instance, get a ‘power reserve’ gauge. It displays how much spring tension there is left (it lasts for about 5 days, by the way). It’s located in the bottom left corner. On the bottom right, you’ll see an AM/PM indicator, which is basically a small 24-hours clock.

Then, on the backside, you’ll find more gauges and a ‘fine-tuning’ setting. The fine tuning slider allows you to set the speed of the mechanism in order to ‘fit your own specific life style’. The ‘Oil change’ gauge tells you when to take your watch to the service, for a check. There’s also a ‘life timer’, which keeps track of the movement’s operation, for more than a century.

The Revolving Satellite Complication displays time with telescopic minute hands operating through the middle of three orbiting and revolving hour satellites. The telescopic minute hands precisely adjust their length while following the minutes. This precision micro-engineering is achieved by means of three ‘transporters’, one end of which follows a cam plotting the path of the minute indication, the other controlling the precise length of the minute hand

Each of the satellites has four digits on it, each representing an hour. The continuous movement means that you’ll always get the current hour, pointing towards the current minute. Ingenious and original.

However, the watch is not available for anyone; Beside its limited production, it also has a rather exclusive price, and can only be obtained from one of the few authorized dealers. Here are the prices:

Red gold: € 92.600
White gold: € 94.000
Platinum: € 115.500
Black platinum: € 129.600
However, even if you do have the money, availability’s pretty tight, so you’d better rush to a dealer if you want one. They’ve just commenced delivery of the first 20 such watches. There’s only a total of 30 planned for this year, 6 of which will be made of platinum, and another 6 will be ‘black sharks’: made of black platinum.

Lots of thanks to Yacine Sar of Urwerk’s Communications department for the extended infos. You can visit the official site for more pictures and information. Here’s a High-resolution image of the Black Shark at night that you won’t find on the site. Enjoy.

I Wallet - Digital Pictures in Your Back Pocket

We did a comparison on digital photo frames recently, here we have a new sort of frame especially for your wallet, the I Wallet.

If your the kid of person who travels a lot and has to leave behind family or friends, you may find you miss them. You could carry around a pile of photographs, but they may get damaged or lost. What you want is the I Wallet.

The I Wallet features a small digital viewing device that you can store your favorite photographs and recorded messages on, and be able to view them at any time. Just plug it in to your PC and upload the desired images. Then all you need to do is put it in your wallet and go.

So now you can see all those friendly faces when they’re not around, and you have a quality leather wallet for your cards and cash.

I must admit considering the overall size of it the screen looks a bit on the diddy side. The I Wallet will set you back £44.99 (~$90) from DS.

cameras

It’s been a while since we reported on the Gorillapod, a flexible tripod accessory for photographers. The company that makes the Gorillapod, Joby, has branched out and made a Gorilla pod for all sorts of other devices.

As you can see from the attached photo, the Gorillapod has grown quite attached to GPS devices, cellular phones, even portable gaming devices. This series of accessories to mobile devices is known as the Gorillapod Go-Go collection

has grown quite attached to GPS devices, cellular phones, even portable gaming devices. This series of accessories to mobile devices is known as the Gorillapod Go-Go collection.

There are several ways to attach these Gorillapods to the mobile devices. Most cameras have a threaded hole that the Gorillapod can use its slim-line clip to hold onto by screwing it in. The user can also use a suction cup clip that attaches to any flat surface with a vacuum seal with the flip of a switch. There is also the option of using a high-bond adhesive clip to stick it to your mobile device like the Cliphanger.

As for the legs of the Gorillapods, they can bend and rotate at 360 degrees to form whatever shape is needed. It also has rubberized ring and foot grips so there isn’t a lot of slippage when you stand your gadget up.

You should be able to get the Gorillapod Go-Go for about $29.95 on the Joby site. That is a small price to pay to convert your mobile device into something out of War of the Worlds

G-Cube webcam

Webcams are dime a dozen, and most laptops and notebooks these days already come with one built-in for added convenience. The G-Cube webcam targets notebook owners who do not yet have this communications peripheral, and it comes in varying shades of the feminine persuasion. Capable of being clipped to any laptop display or LCD monitor, the G-Cube webcam features a resolution of 640 x 480, auto exposure control and white balance. It retails for $22.99 and can also be rotated up to 180 degrees.

PC Keyboard Finally Opens Up

Sometimes I see ideas like these and I just get angry. It’s not that that product idea is so bad. On the contrary, this idea of an opening keyboard is so good that I just want to scream “why didn’t I invent that!”

After all, the idea of a keyboard that opens up into a mini-storage bin is so very obvious. If your desk is anything like mine, then you have pens, CDs, and other office supplies littering your desk space like a landfill.

So why not have a PC keyboard that opens up and stores it all? Well, most of the little junk, anyway. This is exactly what the PS2 Keyboard was invented to do. I have to admit that I wouldn’t have called this a PS2 Keyboard, because I thought it was a keyboard for a certain console gaming system put out by Sony. I believe the PS2 actually refers to the type of connectors needed to make the product work, the PS/2.

Digital Money Jar Teaches Kids to Save their pennies

It’s fun. It’s high tech. And it will count your pennies, nickels and dimes as you drop them in and keep a running total. It’ll even teach your kids the value of a dollar. That’s the promise of the Discovery Amazing Money Jar Bank. Made of high impact plastic, the Jar is unbreakable save for a sledgehammer.

Volvo ReCharge Concept

The Frankfurt Motor Show will see Volvo reveal a pretty revolutionary plug-in hybrid car known as the ReCharge Concept. Basically, this vehicle is a revamped (and in many ways, I might add) Volvo C30 that comes complete with electric wheel motors and batteries which can be charged through an ordinary electrical outlet. A fully juiced up battery will be able to provide up to 62 miles of travel before the four-cylinder 1.6 Flexifuel engine kicks in to keep the battery charged up. Since plenty of people drive less than 60 miles in a single day, the ReCharge would make a great permanent electric car that possesses some pretty decent speed (how does 0-62mph in 9 seconds and a top speed of 100mph sound to you?)

The Amazing Flying Dutch Car

If you hate being stuck in traffic jams, don’t worry, because the new flying car PAL-V is on it way. This Dutch project is a hybrid 3-wheel vehicle that can fly as a gyrocopter and also be driven as a regular car, or to be more precise, like a motorcycle.

Zero to fuel efficient in 6 seconds … Fuel Cell cars have arrived

Well, more like 40 years, as scientists (as well as astronauts) have been working to perfect this promising, yet problematic, technology as an alternate form of energy. Now, it may be coming to the masses in the form of transportation. Chevrolet is launching it’s new line of fuel efficient automobiles that use fuel cells, instead of gasoline or hybrid electrical/gas engines to power the vehicle. Dubbed “Project Driveway,” the launching is more test marketing, as Chevy puts 100 motorists behind the wheels of the fuel cell automobile in order to focus group public reaction to the cutting edge technology.

Nehmesis," a $250,000 award-winning Star Motorcycle

Star Motorcycle's Bob Starr was on hand to discuss the future path of the brand and to unveil some new creations like this one. "Nehmesis," a $250,000 award-winning Star Motorcycle custom cruiser designed and built by Broward Motorsports/BMS Choppers' Owner Sam Nehme. This bike will be on display for the remainder of the series.

Nehmesis received first place in the Custom Radical category at the 2007 Biketoberfest Rats Hole competition in Daytona Beach. This was the first time ever a metric (Japanese) bike beat out the American bikes to win this coveted award. The bike has to be seen to be believed, it is full of firsts – no kickstand; full air suspension with compressors that raise the bike to a riding level; largest rear motorcycle tire ever – 360 mm; gold and chrome plating; no support beams on front or rear tires; and the list goes on. Nehmesis was built in six months as part of the Metric Revolution Motorcycle Build Off set to air on ESPN2 in April 2008.

The shape of things to come?

Just as we now look back and chuckle at the size of, for example, the original Sony Walkman I can’t help but wonder if we’ll be doing the same with these in the next decade.

First it was the PDA wristwatch. Now Eurotech have announced a wearable PC. Granted it looks like a prop reject from Space 1999 but as a way of taking information with you the idea is sound.

Projection cellphones

Projectors used to be large, bulky items that were extremely expensive to purchase and maintain, but thanks to the advent of technology, projectors could be shrunk down in size with the possibility of including them in cellphones sometime down the road. This concept by Stefano Casanova (must be a charmer, eh) sees a Windows-based handset projecting its screen onto a flat surface courtesy of the micro light projector that has been integrated into the LCD. All you need to do to activate it is flip the display downwards.

Ion makes it even easier to rip your tunes to your iPod

Ion Audio gets it. First they came up with a USB Turntable that allowed music lovers to rip and digitize albums to their PC. Then came the cassette player which let users do the same thing with their 80s era cassettes. But now, in an effort to make it easier for the iPod generation to enjoy the hisses and crackles of those wonderful old vinyl albums, Ion has gone a step further upgrading their USB Turntable to rip directly to an iPod.

MiniGod Speakers

Somewhere, on a hidden island where stereos are worshipped, the natives are dancing a fiery, ritualistic dance to the MiniGod.

Okay, that’s not really happening, but it certainly looks like it should be. I mean, look at this MiniGod thing! It looks like it should be a prop at a high-tech luau. Its style is reminiscent of the Jetsons (especially with the ring around its neck) mixed with that CG movie Robots. That is, if Robots had been a darker, scarier movie. (Actually, it could be if you stopped and thought about it. I mean, it was a world inhabited by robots, for crying out loud. What happened to the humans?)

Believe it or not, these MiniGod Speakers require only a 9 volt battery for operation, then hook up with a computer or stereo system. You can also hook up to an iPod, and then you’ll have yourself a little amplification.

These MiniGod speakers are about 15 inches tall, and are actually available in a few different models and color combinations.

Mini Mouse USB Speaker isn’t what you’d expect

I’ve seen many mice that serve a variety of functions. Some will let you use them as a Skype phones while other will function as a vacuum cleaner. One thing that all of them have in common is that they’re also able to be used as a method for controlling your PC. Perhaps someone should have informed the makers of this USB mouse speaker.

Asus M571 USB flash drive

The Asus M571 USB flash drive might look like a standard USB flash drive at first glance, but upon closer inspection, you will realize that it is actually a USB flash drive that doubles up as a wireless mouse as well. Unfortunately, I don’t think the form factor of this mouse is easy on your hands - just take a look at the awful, thin design! It will definitely introduce RSI to you faster than expected if this is a long term navigation solution. I guess this mouse will come in handy only during emergencies when your notebook’s touchpad has lost its…well, touch. Other features include a scroll wheel and a magnetic locking mechanism that connects the transmitter for charging purposes. No idea on its capacity and pricing as at press time.

Silverlit VBeat Air Guitar

So you’ve always wanted to play an electric guitar just like Slash, but the closest you’ve come to his standard is by strumming an air guitar while rocking to his CD/MP3. Here’s the Silverlit V Beat Guitar to fulfill your dreams.

This motion-sensing electronic guitar simulator is perfect for wannabe guitar heroes who’ve graduated beyond air-guitar and tennis rackets, but haven’t quite got to grips with the real thing yet! Pre-programmed rhythms and an instructive guided learning feature will ensure great sounds in no time at all. So, raise your fist in the air and rock out with the V Beat Guitar for super shredding solos and raucous rhythms!

Features include a trio of play modes, free style playing and even pre-programmed rhythms. The Silverlit VBeat Guitar retails for £29.99 each.

Coby MP735 portable media player

Coby has unveiled the MP735 portable media player to the rest of the world at CeBIT 2008. In addition to its rather small 1.66″ LCD color display, you get a touch-based navigation system and swiveling-type stereo speakers. No idea on how much this will cost nor when will it be available, but I think the display is way too small for a portable media player. After all, squinting one’s eyes 10 minutes into a movie is just plain unacceptable, what more if you’re stuck on a long haul flight, having left your iPod at home.

Under Cabinet TV With DVD Player

With living spaces these days getting more and more expensive without increasing in size, it makes perfect sense to try and make the most out of your situation. Take a look at the offerings from Ikea and you’ll know what I mean - practical, space saving and easy on the eye. The Under Cabinet TV With DVD Player is surely a subscriber to that mantra.

Mounted under a cabinet in a kitchen or office, this compact media center lets you enjoy TV programs, DVD movies, music CDs, and AM/FM radio without creating countertop clutter. The 9″ diagonal screen flips down and can be swiveled 270 to achieve the preferred viewing angle; its 16:9 aspect ratio makes it ideal for watching movies. Its TFT active matrix LCD (the same as those used in flat panel televisions) produces sharp, detailed images with rich color in widescreen or standard 4:3 formats. It has a digital/analog television tuner, receives 135 cable channels, and it can be used as a stereo system, playing CDs as well as tuning in AM/FM radio stations. Plugs into AC and mounts easily with included hardware. Remote uses two AAA batteries (included) and has a magnet for attaching to a refrigerator.

Hammacher is currently making the Under Cabinet TV With DVD Player available for $299.25

Children’s TV And Video Game Manager

I know that life these days are much more comfortable compared to our parents’ and grandparents’ time, and our choice for entertainment is greatly expanded compared to non-electrical means of yore. Kids and teens alike love video games at the moment, and this is one industry that shows no signs of slowing down - yet. How do you make sure your children don’t overdose on video games and TV shows? Simple - with the Children’s TV And Video Game Manager.

This device consistently imposes limits on TV, video game, or computer usage, helping your child learn how to effectively budget time. The device to be monitored plugs into the time manager’s locking outlet. You can create accounts for up to six users, each with its own daily or weekly time allotment, PIN, and “block out” times, where the device can’t be used–for example, from 3:00 p.m. to 5 p.m., to ensure time is set aside for schoolwork. When a user’s time allotment is exhausted, the device sounds a warning so that equipment can be powered off normally. You can also temporarily override the system to add or subtract time from a user’s account, and display usage reports to gain an understanding of your family’s time management aptitude. Settings are accessed easily from the unit’s touchpad

Sanyo’s waterproof Xacti E1

Remember Sanyo’s waterproof Xacti E1 camcorder that was released not too long ago? This time round, the company has released a second generation model - the Xacti E2. I would assume if you lead a relatively active lifestyle, whether during the winter or summer, the Xacti E2 would be extremely convenient since it is able to function well even when underwater up to 5 feet, with a maximum underwater shelf life of an hour before it sleeps with the fishes. Of course, the Xacti E2 also works great when you go skiing or snowboarding, in addition to other water based stops like snorkeling, surfing and water-skiing.

The Xacti E2 can function even when one of your hands are occupied, making it the perfect device when it comes to shooting casual yet important videos. You will be able to choose from brilliant blue or pearlescent white for $399.99 a pop. The E2 will capture MPEG-4 video that uses state-of-the-art AVC/H.264 recording. It supports the SDHC memory card format, where an 8GB SDHC card is able to store up to 8 hours of full motion video or 2,000 still images at 8 megapixels each. Other features include :-

  • Smooth movie recording and playback with 60 fps

Nero thinks hardware for Tivo recording

Seeing that more and more people are getting their entertainment through their PCs, TIVO wants to take advantage of an emerging market. So, they go to a company who makes software for DVD burning. Becoming partners, Nero and TIVO have announced the first TIVO for PC use. Known as Nero LiquidTV TiVo PC, the package includes both hardware and software which will let users record TV directly to their PC with the ease of your average DVR. The nice thing is that it sounds as if LiquidTV won’t come with the burdensome DRM laden TIVO to Go restrictions, as once TV programs are recorded, the shows can be exported to PSP, iPod or DVD directly.

The TiVo PC remote, TV tuner card, and an IR blaster combine for a wireless connection between the satellite or cable box and the PC. LiquidTV TiVoPC will retail for about $199, with the software alone going for just south of a hundred. But here’s something I find baffling. Although LiquidTV comes with a year free of the TIVO service, you’ll have to pay for TIVO after that. Huh? Why would I want to do that when I can get off the shelf hardware, install MythTV or some other open source DVR, or even play with Windows Media Center for no monthly pittance?

Dating Is Good for the Soul

Dating isn't just a road to marriage--it's spiritually good for you, too.
Feeling unlucky at love? Having trouble trusting partners -- and yourself -- after falling in and out of love? Been hurt enough to think youíd be better off single? Well, here are some reasons to reconsider dating and to give love another chance:

1. Dating is good for your heart and your coronaries. A study pioneered by Dean Ornish, M.D., revealed that of a group of people undergoing coronary angiography, those who felt loved had substantially less blockages in their heart arteries.

2. Giving love and support keeps you younger. Whereas feeling loved may help your heart, studies have shown that giving love appears to reduce the effects of aging. It may have something to do with the fact that giving love increases your sense of self-worth.

3. Aloneness easily worsens. When you're alone in pain, it frequently crosses over into suffering. When you're alone in fear, it's easy to panic. When youíre alone in anger, rage is not far away. As upsetting as pain, fear and anger can be, suffering, panic and rage are significantly more stressful.

4. Talking and connecting with another person releases your endorphins. Just as exercise releases endorphins, so too does exercising your social muscles by dating. Throw in a whole bunch of other chemicals that are triggered, including prolactin, adrenalin and PEA (phenylethylamine), and you may never need prescription meds again.

5. Love is a natural antidepressant. Being in a loving relationship releases dopamine, norepinephrine and serotonin. Dopamine and norepinephrine are the bodyís natural stimulants. Serotonin is the bodyís natural anti-worry chemical (it is the one increased by taking Prozac, Zoloft and Paxil).

why Gadgets ??

All the newest, neatest innovations for your home and beyond. Information on products with newest & latest technology.

Should gadgets be simpler? Today’s gizmos come loaded with features, most of which will never get used. Take Canon’s G9, which Gadget Lab reviewed in September 2007:

Sheer breadth of modes, features and options is almost too staggering for a normal person to learn in a reasonable amount of time.

It’s easy to see why manufacturers pack more and more functions into their products: the check list on the back of the box has to have at least as many points as others on the same shelf. But this obsession hurts ease of operation and generally makes the tool less useful. In short, for the consumer, simple is often better.

There are examples of pared down gadgets. Currently, the Flip Video camera is causing a storm amongst bloggers. The Flip is a solid state camcorder with the most minimal feature set possible: A fixed focus lens, flash memory, a small screen and a sprinkling of buttons to record and playback footage. It has a built in USB plug and runs on AA batteries. No hi-definition, no optical zoom, no face detection.

And people are going crazy for it. The tiny case, not much bigger than a pack of cigarettes, can be kept in a back pocket, ready to go. This simplicity makes capturing video fun again. Instead of playing with the settings, you just forget about how you use it and just use it.

Finding a Safe Dating Site

Seems like everywhere we surf on the Internet nowadays we run across this little advertisement: 'Free online personals'.
They are everywhere, they are dating sites, and more are opening up shop every day.

Welcome to the newest internet gold rush.
More and more people are signing up to these new and "free" dating sites.
What they are really getting is a place on the web where they can post their profile and let strangers contact them.
As more and more dating sites pile up on the web, more people are ending up with very distasteful experiences because of this.
Why? 99% of today's (and tomorrow's) dating sites do not screen their members at all. This means there are sex offenders, predators, scam artists
mixed in with genuine people who are looking to find a match.
Dating services need to be very discretionary and much safer, until that time comes here are some important things to consider
when thinking about joining a dating site.

1). Examine the site's physical properties. Is it poorly constructed with missing graphics or jagged fonts, mis-aligned sections? If so, this indicates a lack of attention to detail in the construction and layout of the site. It may have been pre purchased and the owner does not have the skill to alter it correctly. Why would you care? Well, a site in a state like this gives a clue that the back end program probably is also in a state of disarray or disregard. If the webmaster cannot construct the face of the site, then it is likely they cannot also construct important safety features behind the site. A hacker then could easily penetrate it and get your personal information including your photo. If you eventually pay this site, your credit information could be stolen as well! A nicely designed site means careful construction and a better chance of good quality code running the site in the background.

2). Look at some sample profiles on the site before you sign up by running a quick search. Do the profiles look a little bogus? A lot of them are. Many sites (especially new ones that have just started up) pad their membership database with photos of models or random (usually good-looking people) to attract new members. Do the profiles have a lot of jibberish characters or nonsensical phrases in the descriptions? That means the dating site you are at does NOT screen the people who sign up. This welcomes people with ill-intent. You should get out of there immediately and go to one that does.

3). Does the site have a privacy link? Look at the bottom of the site's main page. If they have a privacy link, click it and examine. Make sure they specifically state that they do NOT sell your information to anyone. This is an invitation to a spam and junk-mail nightmare. Also look for some sort of a web site rules page or a terms of use page. Check to see if they screen their profiles or somehow >disallow racial, hate or overly sexual material. If they don't state this than, anything goes for this site, another reason to leave.

4). Does the site have a links page? If so click and examine. See who they are affiliated with. Usually, there will be graphical banners or icons next to the names of their associations. Are they sex-sites? Spam sites? Even a quick glance in this area could tell you what kind of a dating site you are at.

5). What is the copyright date at the bottom? This could indicate the age of the site. If it is very young, this could help you determine if the site has worked out all the kinks (program bugs) and how many members they have accumulated.

6). Be wary of statements like "You are the 4697th member to join today." and "Search through millions of profiles." these statements are usually false. Major sites, which have been running for YEARS usually can support these statements. look for a "whos online" link. If you are the only person (1 guest online means JUST you are there) then you know these claims are false. A site with millions or even thousands of members will always have a bunch of people currently online. If you detect this in a dating site, it is better to leave than to take a chance with a dishonest site. This is just a short list of ideas to help keep you safe when dating online. Be leary, be safe. Online Dating 101 - Online Dating Basics

Online Dating 101 by Kevin Koger

Feeling like there's something that's just not quite there yet in how you're going about this whole online dating thing? Don't feel bad, chances are you're one of the many people who're still pretty new to this gig. Heck, internet dating has only been around for about eight years, so obviously no one out there can claim to have all the answers.

But hey, seeing that we've been perfecting the art of matching people up online all eight of those years, we'd like to share a little of what we've learned about how to make the best of your online experience. Who knows, one of these pointers might be just what you've been missing in perfecting your own online dating adventures.

Therefore, without further ramblings, here are the:

TOP 10 TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL ONLINE DATING

SAY CHEESE! Look your best and submit a great photo of yourself for your profile photo. A good picture really is worth a thousand words, and research shows that you are nearly 10 times more likely to be noticed if you post a photo to your profile.

And, the same stats hold true when you contact someone you've noticed on the site. If you don't have a photo, don't be surprised if the responses aren't too quick in coming back.

Now, don't get mad a start making accusations about all the shallow people out there. While it may be true that some people place too much emphasis on physical appearances, the bottom line is it does make a difference when two people are meeting and making initial evaluations of their interest in each other. And, it's also a trust thing. It is always going to be much easier to interact with a face than with a blank box.

FRESH IS GOOD Change your profile picture and greeting occasionally, add photos to your photo album, and login regularly-this will not only get you noticed, but it will help others get a more varied and up-to-date idea of what constitutes the real you.

When something interesting happens in your life, tell us about it in your profile greeting. This is a great way to let your online friends in on what it might be like to actually spend time with you. That's the main goal of online dating isn't it, to find people you'd finally like to meet and spend time with face-to-face? Anyways, it's always more fun to hear about a crazy experience you've just had than to read the same old descriptions of you and your cat that have been on your profile for months now.

As for photo albums, this is the icing on the cake. Not only do these photos round out and confirm the physical picture your friends are forming of you, but they also go a long way in helping others really see what makes you "you." The head and shoulders shot of you in your profile photo is nice and all, but when they see you hanging 10, running with your Chihuahua, or shoving a big fat piece of cheesecake in your mouth ? now they're getting to know you.

I HAVE CONFIDENCE IN ME Have fun describing yourself without making excuses about why you're on the site or who convinced you to finally go online. Tell us what makes you unique.

Believe it or not, being an online dater no longer places you on the fringes of society or even in the minority. Online dating has grown up and moved into the mainstream, and so you can now happily assume that the face-saving qualifiers of past times online are now obsolete. And, more importantly, just realize that they don't help your cause when meeting others online.

One more thing ? try to be original. Yes, I'm sure you really do like the outdoors and want to meet someone who looks good in a tux and in jeans, but so does everyone else! Tell us some things about yourself that wouldn't necessarily come out in an elevator conversation with your tax accountant. For example, what are you passionate about? What would you do if no longer had to work for a living? What's your favorite flavor of gelato? Do you secretly wish everyday was sampling day at the grocery store? ? now it' getting interesting!

HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY Don't be fooled thinking telling fibs will impress that special someone enough to get relationship started... it will turn them off! Be your best self.

When you really stop and think about it, what do you think your new friend's reaction is going to be if when you meet for the first time it's obvious you're not the person they thought they were going to be meeting? "Oh .. hi. I see that you've been dishonest with me from the get-go here, but hey, I'm still thinking we've got a great shot at having an open, trusting relationship for the long-term" Obviously not.

They're going to be hurt, and disappointed. And, your relationship is unlikely to get past the wave goodbye as your friend gets back in their car to go home.

IT'S NICE TO BE NICE Okay, so you get a little grouchy once in a while-don't we all? However, people like nice people. Please be considerate and polite ? it will make this whole online thing so much more enjoyable for all of us!

There's an interesting social phenomenon researchers have discovered in online interactions. They've found people often change their standards of politeness and diplomacy when a conversation is happening online, versus face-to-face.

Don't believe it? You might be surprised if you were to go back and look at some of the things you've said. Look at some messages you've sent, and then consider saying the exact same words in a face-to-face or a telephone conversation. Sound a little rough? Don't feel too bad, it happens to the best of us, just try to keep this in mind the next time you're typing out an email or instant message.

One more thing-please don't ignore people. A quick "thanks, but no thanks" note is so much better than no reply at all. In fact, next time you're replying to a message on the site, check out the new "Thanks but No Thanks" template. It's a quick way to nicely let someone know you're not interested in corresponding.

YOU CAN PICK YOUR FRIENDS ? Invite your friends along! Create Activity Groups, go on group dates, try Express Dating, enjoy travel events, and just enjoy the net together. After all, instant messaging alone isn't enough to build solid relationships.

Group dating and group events simply make a lot of sense for online dating. Not only does it make those first dates less stressful, it often makes them more fun, and it definitely makes first meetings a much safer proposition.

Have you ever tried Activity Groups? They're a great way to meet people with common interests in a safe, fun group setting. You can join a group that's already been created, or you can create your own and invite all your friends to join ? and their friends ? and their friends ? you get the point.

BREAK OUTA THAT SHELL Don't be afraid to make the first contact. Online dating makes it easy for all you shy ones out there to break the ice, because you get to do all the initial getting to know each other from the comfort and safety of your own computer.

To start, just send a Flirt or a quick email message saying Hi-and do it often! You might be surprised how many of our great members suffer from lack of attention from their online peers. Not only might you find someone with whom you're very interested in maintaining contact, but you'll probably be making someone's day.

EXPAND YOUR HORIZONS If your first internet efforts haven't turned up "the perfect one," don't despair. Hundreds of new people sign up every day on the site, so just come back to see Who's New. You may also want to consider expanding your searches-don't be too intent on sticking to your itemized checklist for eternal mates.

You might also want to try some different searches from time to time. Because there are about a million different things you might find attractive in another person, it's nice to mix up the criteria you're searching on once in a while. For example, you can search by their Occupation, any Keyword or combination of keywords you can think of, and many others.

UH OH ? THIS MIGHT ACTUALLY BE FUN! Don't be afraid to have some fun along your path to relationship happiness! Enjoy getting to know people and understand that many happy relationships and even marriages start with a good ol' friendship. And, don't rush it!

You've heard animals can sense fear? Well, we humans can be pretty perceptive as well (except for that one guy who just can't take a hint). So, don't think others can't sense when you're frustrated, dejected, conceited, holier than thou, fed up, etc. etc. Put a smile on, and enjoy the ride, because even if the first few people you meet aren't Mr./Mrs. Right, it doesn't mean you can't have some fun in good conversations with them.

You may also need to be a little bit patient as you head off into the brave new world of online dating. Not all marriages are "love at first site," and even if yours is, it may take a lot of looking before you "site" that special someone. And so, once again ? enjoy the ride!

USE YOUR NOODLE Ya know, that gray matter between your ears? That's your noodle. Use it! Be smart, be cautious, and follow our safety guidelines, your instincts, and the spirit in all your dating activity.

Done right, online dating is a lot of fun, and it's a great way to meet some wonderful people ? just ask the thousand-plus people we've had submit success stories to us in the past few years! So, enjoy it, and follow these ten tips, and hopefully we'll be getting a success story from you sometime soon.

How To Choose a Dating Service

There are so many dating sites out there, hundreds if not thousands, how do you even begin to decide where to register and start your online dating experience?

You could just pick one at random, create a profile, and sit back and wait for the other members to beat a path to your email inbox. Who knows, you could get lucky and it might work out first time. But even a tiny bit of investigation beforehand could save a lot of time and frustration!

The trick is to be prepared. You probably wouldn't go off to buy a new car and start by trawling around dealerships at random, you would already have an idea as to what sort of car you want - how big, how fast, how much money you had to spend, and so forth. Based on these criteria you would have a good idea of which car showrooms to visit to find the right sort of vehicle for your particular needs. So the first question to ask yourself, is what do you want out of a dating site? Sounds obvious - a date! But what sort of date? Are you looking for a serious relationship possibly leading to marriage? Or are you after a casual partner and you'll see where it leads? Or perhaps you just want some uncomplicated fun. The good news is that among the myriad of services out there on the web, there is something to cater for every requirement. Some sites will suit all tastes, but there are many that specialise, and the more specific you are about what you want, the better your chances of finding it.

Before looking at the sites on offer, think about how you will write your personal profile. Jot down a paragraph or two about yourself, your interests, and your hopes for a partner. Then write a few words about what you are looking for in a potential dating match. Doing this offline will help you structure in your own mind what sort of date you are looking for, and then when you go and look at some dating sites, you'll easily be able to pick out those that offer the best chance of providing what you want. The added benefit of course is that when it comes to filling in your profile online, you will be prepared and wont be sat in front of your screen lost for words. Instead your profile will read in a very natural and honest way.

I would always recommend choosing at least two sites to register with and put your profile on, after all, they are almost all free to start with - you only need decide if you want to pay when and if someone of interest turns up and you want to make contact.

Websites like The Dating WebReview can also save you time. The reviews will quickly give you an idea about the services each dating site offers, and whether they specialise.

Choosing an internet dating site isn't difficult. In the end it comes down to finding one that you enjoy using. After all, if it appeals to your taste, then you already have something in common with the other members.

Internet Dating - Its Not For Geeks

Six months ago an old school friend and I were chatting over coffee, putting the world to rights as women do. She was bemoaning her lack of success in meeting the "right sort" of men. I asked her if she had tried using an internet dating service, and the look of horror that quickly appeared on her face gave the instant answer - of course not! Internet dating, she informed me, was for the sad, desperate, geeky or freaky.

Sadly this type of response is typical of people from all walks of life. Why sadly? Because those who instantly dismiss such services are missing out on a great opportunity.

The traditional argument for not using the internet to meet someone is that it is not natural. So what is natural? Where have people traditionally met their husbands, wives, lovers, and friends? Statistically, over the past 50 years the most common place for meeting ones spouse has been the workplace. This is hardly surprising given the ever increasing amounts of time most people are finding themselves working. Other common meeting places include bars, nightclubs, and parties, and some lucky few meet their lifetime partner early in life at college or university. However, the workplace remains number one for long term relationships. The reason for this is simple; lasting long term relationships are usually born out of robust friendships, and strong friendships form over time. Spend eight hours a day five days a week with the same people and you will get to know them very well. It is not uncommon in the modern world to spend more time with your colleagues than with your family, an unfortunate but true fact of life.

The increasing amounts of time we as a society are spending working is leaving less time to spend in social environments outside of the office, which means less opportunity to meet new people. So if you don't meet someone at work, where else is there? Enter the dating agency.

Dating agencies are not a new idea, they have been around a very long time. The internet has simply served as a new medium for bringing people together in a tried and tested way that agencies have used for years. However, it offers some unique advantages for those seeking a partner. Firstly it has lowered the cost of running a dating service, and that means agency dating has been opened up to a much wider audience. Secondly, it has broken down geographical barriers in a way that off-line agencies could never hope to. This is an important point because not everyone is looking for their future husband or wife on their doorstep. Indeed not everyone is looking for a future husband or wife; the explosion in internet dating has made it easier than ever to find new friends and correspondents across the globe.

These two points mean that some of the bigger agency sites now have in excess of three million members, and literally thousands of new members joining every day. With that many people, if you are serious about finding a partner, lover, or a friend, then the internet is simply too big a resource to ignore. And 'net dating is safe too; there is no need to exchange real names or even email addresses until you feel you know someone well enough. All the services allow you to block unwanted communication and so there is no fear of being pestered. Used sensibly, internet dating can be safer than almost any other way of meeting people.

The internet has revolutionised the way we work, shop, conduct our financial affairs, and entertain ourselves. To use it as a medium for meeting new people is a logical step in our fast changing world.

After that chat six months ago I convinced my friend to post a profile on a dating site, she didn't even have to pay anything to do so unless she wanted to start sending messages to other people. Now I never see her because she is spending all of her time with her new man. She didn't find him in five minutes like some of the sales pitches would like you to believe, but then six months ago she didn't expect to find him at all.

The USB Metal Game Pad features shiny chrome

If you’re tired of having the same old boring controllers to go with your favorite games, you’ll like this new design. It features chrome and not just shiny plastic that looks like chrome. Granted that means that you’re stuck making fingerprints all over it every single time you pick it up. However, having a shiny controller like this might be worth the extra trouble it would cause.

Jetboil Personal Cooking System

Where are you going to get a hot cuppa joe if you’re out in the wilderness, roughing it out? Well, instead of going through the frustrations and motions of starting a fire in the middle of nowhere, the Jetboil Personal Cooking System is here to save the day.

The Jetboil Personal Cooking System (PCS) has sparked a revolution in outdoor cooking. Capable of boiling two cups in two minutes at 75-80% efficiency, the PCS is twice as fast and uses half as much fuel as conventional stoves. The PCS boils up to 50 cups (12 liters) of water from only one isobutane/propane micro-canister. Such outstanding performance results from the FluxRing heat exchanger, which captures and focuses the burner’s heat instead of the heat being lost to the ambient air. Well suited to quickly heating water, the Jetboil can be used to make hot beverages, noodles, pasta, dehydrated hiking meals, soups and, of course, a nice cup of coffee (using the optional Coffee Press accessory).

Netgear unveils a couple more wireless routers

Netgear is a name often associated with network equipment, and today signals the release of two more wireless-N networking solutions for consumers and office folk in the form of the NETGEAR Wireless-N Router (WNR2000) and Wireless-N Router with Built-in DSL Modem (DGN2000). Both devices are more than capable of delivering the performance required to support the simultaneous use of bandwidth-intensive applications such as Internet surfing, Internet telephony, online gaming, and high-definition video streaming. Not only that, users will also benefit from Quality of Service (QoS) that ensures the right prioritization of simultaneous traffic. More details on both models right after the jump.

Highlighters and USB Drives: A match made in heaven

If you work in an office setting, then you probably use a lot of highlighters and USB Flash drives. As with all great inventions, someone eventually gets smart and decides to combine two great things together, and the result in this case is the High Dexx USB Flash Drive.

Three highlighters in blue, yellow, and green combine with an orange one that is actually a USB Flash Drive. The orange guy can plug into the stand, and this stand plugs right into the computer.

Microsoft SideWinder X8 gaming mouse

A gaming mouse that does not come with wires? Well well, this is definitely going against the grain, but Microsoft doesn’t care as they forge ahead with the SideWinder X8. This wireless gaming mouse relies on a 2.4GHz connection to keep it moving, and it is capable of hitting a ridiculously high 4,000 dpi to match the Razer Lachesis. I am personally using a Lachesis, and I don’t venture anywhere near that amount since it is way too sensitive for me in the midst of a firefight. The SideWinder X8 relies on the recently unveiled BlueTrack laser technology that makes mousing possible on virtually any surface. Microsoft has also touted a 30 hour battery life for active gamers, but I would make sure the battery is fully charged if I’m going to enter any gaming competition with this. Good to know the SideWinder X8 comes with a play-and-charge cable for those emergencies. You can pick up the Microsoft SideWinder X8 for $100 next February.
